Hello everyone. I’m currently on my second j pouch, about 3 weeks in. I’m having a rough time. Quickly, I’ll explain my first j pouch story. I had it for about a year and every single day was a struggle with not being able to pass gas or stool without straining. This led to painful fissures and also more straining and inflammation in my cuff. After a year I gave in and decided I needed an ostomy to get healthy again. I had a revision of my j pouch where they “untwisted” it, and removed more rectum. I thought this would solve my issues. Now I’m 3 weeks in with my new j pouch and the same exact issues are occurring. I noticed with my first pouch and with this one that many times I can only pass anything when I begin to urinate while sitting on the bowl. I always thought to myself that I feel like I forgot how to poop and that I couldn’t relax my muscles down there (unless I began to pee)... does anyone have knowledge on non relaxing pelvic floor dysfunction? Does this sound like it can be from that? Please respond if you have any idea of what my problem can be because I’m beginning to get very frustrated. Thanks !

I am also a new poucher . Almost everytime I urinate I grt the yrge to go also. Its hard to hold back but after sometime it gets easier. I dont mind if I have to go when I go to pee . As per ky surgeon both the systems are very close and during operation the other is also disturbed a little that leads to this dysfunction . With time it gets back to normal . Do alot of pelvic exercises thats what I did . When you sit on the toilet try twisting your body a little sideways it helps me relax my muscles . Dont worry it'll get easier as time passes.

I too had those painful fissures due to my pelvic wall refusing to quietly just do it’s job, the only thing that worked for me Is by taking Oxycodone to force the pelvic wall to relax.

now I am able to work and live a normal life.

The bad part is it took me a year to have to get on a program with a pain management specialist who understood my problem. And I have to go once a month for a doctors visit and they sometimes urine check me, as well as few other practices because of the ability for others to abuse this medication.

But this medication has given me the ability to leave my house and to live mostly without pain. I occasionally have a flareup that requires pouchitis medication but without Oxy I would not be able to keep my J pouch.

I tried everything medically offered to me.  Probiotics, enemas, special exercises, special diet, fluids only, suppositories, yoga, a medical wrap that wrapped me up from pelvis to chest, and was offered anti depressants.  I didn't want to do the anti depressants, because I wasn't depressed, just in constant pain from the clenching.  Now I am perfectly fine.  Without my prescription, I would be in big trouble.
