I am currently struggling with high blood pressure.  Of All the blood pressure lowering meds we have tried I am either allergic to it or My legs/feet start swelling.  We are out of choices and diuretic meds is the only med we haven’t tried.  I am worried about dehydration and compromising my kidneys even more than they already are if I have to go on a diuretic.  My j=pouch output is 6~ 8 times per day.  I try to keep my fluids up by drinking water but some times if I eat something my pouch doesn’t like I lose a lot of fluid.  Anyone out there on a diuretic with a j-pouch and how has it been working out for you?  Thanks for any input anyone can provide.

Hi Linda,

I have been on a diuretic for approximately one year as an additional blood pressure medicine - I take two other types of BP meds for hypertension as well.    Additionally, I had renal cell carcinoma resulting in approximately 1/2 of one of my kidneys removed through robotic surgery in 2009.  I have had a jpouch since 1992.  In my case, blood pressure is controlled generally and my kidney function in within normal range.
