have had my J pouch for about 15 years now.  I have had pretty good results with it, but lately I have been having some difficulties with pain in my joints, nausea recently, and pain in my abdominal area.  I have had extreme itchiness on my feet and hands (not dry skin related.)  And I am so tired and weak that it is hard getting through the day without a good nap on the afternoon.   Anyone have any ideas?  I have been referred to an internist but have no idea when I will get to see the specialist.

Hi,

Why so long before you get to see the doctor? Seems like what your describing is pretty serious, especially with pain and nausea.

@lola1967, has the nausea caused you to reduce your fluid intake? Dehydration could explain the tired/weak feeling. Another possibility, that an internist will check for, is an under active thyroid. Neither of these are good explanations for all of your symptoms, though. Sometimes there’s more than one thing going on, for example when something like gastritis makes you nauseated, and then you get symptoms of dehydration because of reduced fluid intake.

I was having extreme fatigue and kept getting pink eye. My pouch was irritated too. Turns out I was anemic and had to go to the hospital once a week for iron intravenous treatments. I tried supplements, but they were just not working (my doc tested my blood after trying two supplements). After that I felt like superwoman!! If iron was a drug, I'd be an addict. Sometimes it can be a simple answer.

Thanks for all the helpful information everyone.   Unfortunately I have had a ton of blood work over the past little while.  I do have an underactive thyroid that I do take synthroid for.  I have been to a rheumatologist and there is no Rheumatoid arthritis.  I do have osteoarthritis in many of my joints from wear and tear ( knee replacements)) in the works.  I also have had my Gastro Dr. do a scope for my pouch.  They say my iron and B12 levels are fine.  I did have some blood work come back saying my red blood was down.  Dr. didn't seem too concerned about that.  I also bruise very easily and have terrible itchy skin different parts of my body ands and feet mostly, but lately it is everywhere.  No rash no, dry skin, just so itchy I break the skin scratching.  Hoping an Internist will give me some answers though....feeling frustrated 😞
