No, it's not Jesus (he is, but that goes without saying), I'm talking about flange seal rings. Ever since I got my permenant ileostomy I tried everything to secure my flange so it does fall off. Then, my ostomy supplier suggest I use flange seal rings. They completely cover the adhesive part of the flange and essentially makes it completely water proof. Not just that, but they extend the life of my appliance by several days. When I first got my ileostomy I tried everything to keep my flange from peeling off after a few days. Mostly, I used tape, but my skin would end up red and bleeding, and ended up with horrible ulcers. But then I started using these rings, and all my issues stopped, it was a miracle. They are originally designed for swimming, but I use them as part of my daily ostomy care. I can make my appliance last up to 10 days before having to change it, and have not once had any issues with leakage or skin irritation, they truly are a miracle product! No, I'm not getting paid for this! Lol! Just wanted to share this info with the hopes more will find relief like I have. They're really easy to apply. Just put on your new appliance, slide the ring over your bag to the base of your flange, peel off the bottom part of it, stick it to your flange, ensuring there's about a half inch or so over hang past the edge of the flange. Then, remove the top paper (it has both a bottom and top paper to peel off) carefully, and voila! You now have what looks like Saran Wrap completely covering your flange. It's the same type of material they use to cover an IV site. It's soft, water proof, easy on the skin, and truly is a god send. Best of all, they're cheap, only $22 for 10. I can shower without ever having to worry! Seriously, if you can find them in your area, request a free sample and try one, I'm willing to bet once you've tried it, you'll always use them, just thought I'd throw that out there!
