mini-pill effectiveness?

Hi All,

I've had my j-pouch for 5 years. This month my ob-gyn put me on the mini-pill to lighten up my periods (She wouldn't prescribe the combo pill because I have a history of blood clots). I started the pills this week and I've been wondering how effective they will be for keeping me from getting pregnant. I'm worried that I wont absorb them fully. Should I be concerned? The pill is tiny and doesn't look like it's coated to keep it from absorbing too quickly.

My doctor asked me if I had problems absorbing meds and I said I take Advil everyday with no issue.

Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Should be fine, but if you are concerned about it, how about a patch instead? Of course, preventing ovulation and lightening up your periods are two different things and the hormone requirements are different. So, your OB/GYN would be the best one to tell you if the mini pill was enough to prevent pregnancy.
