What exactly do these do to help you out?? I started with Canasa only 1/2 supp. and it did nothing. Then I was given Melsalamine 1/2 enema and I woke up early and spent hours in the bathroom and then into the tub because of soreness and hemorrhoids. So why would I use these if they cause so much more diarrhea? I am almost done with my Cipro and I know I am going to need more. I have my first sigmodoscopy on August 1st to see if I am having pouchitis and what else might be going on. If I am on cipro I am doing good. But as soon as I get off I am miserable. Flu like symptoms. Any suggestions? I give. Seems like I am going to live with Cipro. I am also still on Loperimid and Lomotil and Bentyl. Not sure exactly what to do. The dr. says it is trial and error. So I asked him if I could have a blank prescription pad already signed!!!! I can I live on Cipro forever????

Thanks so much for everyone's help. It is so encouraging to know there are others able to help you out!!!

So this is my life now!!! Nothing I expected ever.

I too had pouchitis from day and one one year later I am still on antibiotics and also taking canasa suppositories intermittently for cuffitis. I will not lie to you in that it has been a very long year for me.

When it comes to pouchitis and most inmportantly pouchitis that becomes chronic, unfortunately, it is a guessing game to see which meds give you the most relief with the least long term side effects.

I also experience flu like symptoms with my pouchitis which includes sore muscles and joints and yes..sore back end from a lot of acid.

I can tell you it does get better in time with the right meds, but it may never be to the level that others who have healthier pouches experience. Good luck with your scope. It is hard to really prescribe the best meds until they go in and look and take biopsies.

Also, some of this could just still be healing and the adaptation period so you do have to be very patient during this period.
