I live in Connecticut and heard this on the news yesterday. What's interesting is he is having the surgery at Yale and not through Hartford Healthcare. These are the two dominant healthcare networks in CT. However Yale is dominant mostly in southern Connecticut (which is where I live and where I receive my J Pouch care) and Hartford Healthcare would be the dominant Healthcare network in northern CT servicing this man's voters and constituents in Hartford. That's kind of interesting but also in my opinion the smarter choice in putting his personal health above politics.
When I had my surgery in 1994 I interviewed two surgeons, one close to my home and one further away. I was more comfortable with the surgeon further away and did the surgery there. It's great that despite imperfections in our health system that patients like us have choices.
Having my surgery at Yale was the best choice I made. I had researched on my own and interviewed my surgeon prior to surgery. I believe my GI doctor was leaning more toward Hartford Hospital and most likely would have referred me there. I agree that Mayor Bronin has made a wise choice, from my own experience. I’d be curious as to who his surgeon is. I had Dr. Reddy and he is the best!

I have heard that Dr.Reddy is DA MAN at Yale for J Pouch surgery, and I would suspect it's 90% he is in fact the surgeon:
CT Barrister. I agree he’s the best. A former colleague of mine has been communicating with me because her partner of several years has been having a rough time lately with his UC. He has been considering surgery as biologics are failing for him. I was so glad to hear that he has a surgical consult with Dr. Reddy. He has been suffering a long time and I am probably the only person they have contact with that has a j-pouch. I mentioned Mayor Bronin and his expected 2 Step surgeries. Hoping this is the route he is also able to take.
