Re: Low blood counts

On Dec 3, 2015 my hemoglobin was about 6. It has increased to 11.6. During this time I have not seen any blood in my stools . I have a j-pouch. How can I have chromes disease if I don't see blood in my stools. My hemoglobin doctor does not know what is causing my low blood counts. my gi doctor thinks i have chromes. John J. Thompson

Those hemoglobin results are 3 years old (2015). Did you have blood in your stools back then? I'm glad it has increased to almost normal. If it stays at this level then you are probably not bleeding. Blood in stool is not always bright red.

Occult blood loss in the stool is easy to test for.

You can have Crohn’s without GI bleeding. It can cause malabsorption or even bone marrow suppression.

The good news is that a hemoglobin of 11.6 isn’t too bad.
