I’ve been ordering generic loperamide online through Amazon and it’s not FDA approved. I figure it’s okay bc it’s the Amazon brand, and it’s still the 2mg of loperamide, no other fillers or anything. But it says on the label not FDA approved so I wonder if I should pay the extra for something that IS FDA approved. Idk. I feel like it’s the same stuff. It’s the difference between $12 for 24 pills vs $4 for 24 pills. Why pay more. 🤷‍♀️ Thoughts?

I am not seeing that they are not FDA approved. Loperamide is a medicine and needs FDA approval for sale. The disclaimer I saw is the standard boiler plate for any/all dietary supplements. This is not a dietary supplement. But, those blister packs are not a good value. There are a number of online stores that sell bottles of 96-200 generic loperamide for decent prices.

However, you may want to contact your doctor and ask about getting an Rx for a nonformulary exception. Many insurance companies will flat out deny coverage for any drug available OTC. But, we use these drugs for chronic conditions, not the occasional OTC use, so it should qualify with an exception. I have been getting it covered this way for decades, and I have Kaiser (also sticklers for coverage). If your doc just shrugs, call Blue Cross and ask how to get an exception for your needed drug.

Thanks Jan. I will talk to my doctor to see what he can do. He did call in the script but CVS Hust didn’t fill it. I hate opening the blister packs. It’s horrible and def not cost effective. I’ll give my insurance a call to see what they can do as well. Blue cross is great insurance so I don’t see why they can’t/won’t cover it.

240 pills for $10 - wow!!

I did look up the FDA thing again and it said “this product not evaluated but the FDA” so I just misunderstood. I mean you can’t really mess up this drug I guess. It’s just the 2mg- not rocket science!
