Hi everyone I haven't posted for quite some time but my Chronic Pouchitis appears to be becoming Refractory. I understand that the inflammation doesn't get completely stamped out but in a simmering state. I have been rotating Cipro and Amoxicillin for 3 or 4 years now and it seems to be losing effectiveness. I can't tolerate Flagyl or even Pentasa but respond well to hydrocortisone enemas which are not a long term solution. Rifaximin has been mentioned if I can get funding for it.
I also have PSC to throw in the mix so I have to be careful with my liver.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks in advance

ASIDEfrom the trying of oregano oil you could also try other antibiotics like tinderbox and reflex..xifaxin there are others as well..

iam also at this time with a chinese dr. trying goldenseal like oregano oil has antibiotic properties..will see if that gets me off of antibiotics for a time..right now with his instructions i am just adding goldenseal to my regular antibiotics..i am doing it with advise from this dr. so i am starting more slowly...i started on 1/2 goldenseal now up to one whole capsule ..but as i said still on my rotating antibiotics..
If the cortenemascwork (which they won't allow perpetual use due to thinning of mucosa over time) would they consider allowingbyountonadd Entocort/Budesinude? It is an oral, supposedly non or less systemic, that doesn't release until it gets near the end of your small bowel, hence the pouch doing the bulk of the absorbing if it, without the thinning risks posed by cort enemas or suppositories. Typically it is a drug they try to wean you off of, but it is currently in trials as a maintenance drug for UC and I have been on half the max dose for about 3 years now, with minimal side effects.

Other options if that fails are other ZuC-type drugs like penates a, Immuran, etc. and /or also various biologics.
