The photos in this album are of my 6 1/2 year old and 4 year old breaking boards at a karate demonstration. The first time I saw them do this a year ago, I couldn't believe it - kids this age shouldn't be able to do this. That's what adults think. But kids don't know this is unusual, so they try until they do it. They never think "I can't do this"

This is how I think of my ostomy. There is nothing I can't do - I won't allow that thought to come to mind. The only limitations your ostomy will put on you are the ones you set in your mind. Instead of seeing the ostomy as something that holds me back, I see it as what sets me free to do what I love to do.

Hi Jill,

WoW! That's amazing!

Would you be willing to share your pouch removal experience with me? I may very well need my pouch removed due to Crohn's. I've read your other posts about your experience. What was the removal like? How long did you have your pouch? My doctor said it is a "very agressive" surgery. I'm more afraid of the surgery than having an ostomy.

Thanks so much!
Lisa
Its hard for me to believe they are so big too!

Alex is my sensitive soul, perceptive and philosophical. A sometimes disturbing combination in a not-yet-seven year old. At five he asked me if this is heaven. When I said no, why? He said "maybe we are all really dead and this is heaven."

Meghan is my firecracker, charming and strong willed. She commands attention from everyone she meets and is often the center of both kids and adults. Sassy and strong - I worry when she is a teenager!

Thankfully, so far, the kids are amazingly close and truly enjoy each other's company. Hoping we keep that for as long as possible!
I can totally understand that question. I mean really. If you looked at the universe from very far away through a microscope couldn't we be part of a person and all those planets, stars, and galaxies are just cells and 'stuff?' Couldn't we be all black holish and not yet know that we've been sucked in? Alex is right to question these mysterious things. (Well, as long as he's not dwelling and being kept up nights thinking too deeply about them. But I think he's brilliant. And children seem to have such a better grasp of just about everything!)

aunt kathy pontificating.... Big Grin
That's an awesome attitude to have about your situation, keep up the positive thoughts and you will be able to do anything. I had mine for 5 years and I was always silly with it, I gave it a nickname and was never embarrassed about having it. I did have problems with mine so I went for my reversal this past summer, now I'm having a whole new set of issues but I'm trying to keep a sense of humor about it all. Thats all you can do.
