How long does it take to learn the new muscles that it takes to empty your pouch consistently. And any guidance on how those muscles feel?

I have sometimes where it just kind of empties and other times were I can't seem to get the right muscle involved to fully empty it. The extra bathroom trips are annoying to say the least.

The pouch basically empties by gravity, so it is best to sit a few minutes to give gravity time to bring more down. Better yet, if you are not feeling quite empty, try standing up and sitting down again, or leaning side to side.

If you think your internal sphincter is not relaxing, you can try coughing (rather than straining), as that can relax the internal sphincter. You may have noticed that sometimes you leak when you cough forcibly, and that is why.

First thing in the a.m. gravity really plays a role in my life. After being horizontal during the night, my J-pouch seems to empty easily but when I think I'm finished I just need to stand up and/or walk around for a few minutes until the second pouchful is ready to leave my body. Now that I expect this to happen it is no big deal. At first I was kind of put off that I couldn't take care of business in one step!
