I had my k pouch completely redone on August  5 th .  Had the tube drain in for 4 weeks and now at home. I am Suppose to intubate every 4 hours but I am having a lot of stool leakage fills up a large AM patch about every 2 hours or so and sometimes leaks on my clothes. I hope my value has not slipped. Has anyone else every had this problem right after surgery.  Talked to dr and was told to wait another month. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Razorback (interesting name!),

Your k pouch valve is very new and young in its evolution. It scarred in around the tube over the first month post-op but sometimes it needs a little more time to settle and heal. You can do 1 of 2 things. 1. Put the tube back in for a few weeks and allow it to scar in a bit more (which means that it may take a bit longer for your pouch to grow to its full capacity) or 2. intubate a bit more frequently which can also put excessive stress on the valve. Try to eat smaller meals, avoid carbonated drinks and beer, and maybe stick to proteins and low residue for a while...See if that helps you.

Option 3. is a combination of both. Eat smaller meals and intubate more frequently but you can hook-up at night in order to get a full night's sleep.
