I am between the creating of the Jpouch and takedown.
When I'm awake, I have NO Issues with leakage of mucus. When I'm asleep, well, not so lucky. Sometimes I wake up and sometimes I wake up a minute too late.

Is this normal? I knew to expect leakage issues after take down but not before.

In case it matters, before jpouch creation but after first surgery, I never had a leakage problem from my diseased rectum. (I had UC in colon and rectum and they only removed the colon in the first surgery)

Thanks

Hi. Whatever is coming out of your bottom right now is probably mucus/liquid so it's not an easy thing to keep in...it just slips out. It makes sense that it is coming out when you sleep as that is when you are totally relaxed. Even with the best of sphincters, liquid will squeak out.
I wouldn't worry about it, and I would say it's normal. Once you have your takedown and things get more formed, you are less likely to have this leakage issue.
I still have some post takedown leakage issues when my diet is more liquidy or if I have a lot of vegetables. It's definitely not the end of the world if this happens. We learn to deal with a lot of things and make survivial our number one priority. Who knew we would ever be able to tolerate a bag of poop hanging off of us? Not so bad, right? Nope.
