Hi Everyone

I am two years post take down and four years since the original surgery where my large bowel was removed. I have had trouble with kidney function ever since the first surgery and now my GFR has dropped to 44. Everytime I get sick I have trouble keeping hydrated and have to go to hospital for hydration. I am worried about loosing my kidneys now. Any one else having problems with kidney function since their surgery? Thanks Linda2

I have had intermittent mild kidney dysfunction in the last three years. My GFR has never gone below 50, and it doesn't stay down for long, so we usually just treat with IV hydration and electrolyte replacement as needed, and watchful waiting. Yesterday my PCP mentioned to me that I "hadn't seen a nephrologist yet". He didn't set me up with a referral, and my last labs looked good, so I am not sure what his train of thought was, but he indicated that would be in my future.
Thanks Lorsall for responding to my post. How quickly did your GFR recover. It has been a week since I got out of Hospital and still it is only 44. I have been referred to the Kidney Clinic go see the Nephrologist (already saw one following surgery but things have deteriorated). Also had a CT scan done last Friday and getting results next week. Also, seeing local Surgeon here rather than the Surgeon that did the bowel removal, j- pouch and take down surgeries on me. It is just getting too costly for me to continue to travel to Edmonton. The local Surgeon I saw in Hospital seemed to know what he was talking about when it came to j-pouches and he was a "let's not rush in with a scope, let's take a wait and see and let things heal before doing a scope" so I liked his attitude. He also extended the medication I am on for pouchetitis when I told my GP that I still felt ill. He seems to listen to his patients and act accordingly.
