I have known for some time that Dr. Fazio no longer performs surgery, but is he still at the Cleveland Clinic in some sort of administrative post?

I have heard he had serious health problems and I strongly hope that he is well now because I think so very highly of him. He succeeded in helping me during two surgeries and he was as kind and gentle as he was talented and famous. I also loved to hear his descriptive Australian expressions, like "she's at the end of her tether" and referring to my k-pouch as "pristine" -- such an odd word for a waste-holding pouch!

A local colo-rectal surgeon here in Virginia deduced that Dr. Fazio was at least alive because the surgeon would have heard otherwise. I do hope he's enjoying whatever he's doing now. Does anyone know what he's doing and where?

Dr. Gail Salganick is gone from Dr. Worsey's practice. Dr. Biermeister has joined the team and I am assuming he will be assisting with Dr. Worsey

Dr Salganick is planning on joining her husband's practice in Chula Vista CA in Jan 2014. I will call her then and see if she will be performing KPs.

Also, Dr Biermeister will not be doing KPs.
That's strange that someone would tell you that since on Oct 29, Dr. Bermeister was right there assisting Dr. Worsey with my surgery. And like I said, Dr. Worsey said he is young and smart and on his way to be a KP surgeon. Hey, maybe after a few surgeries he decided it wasn't for him or maybe he is moving on to another location.

And good luck with your surgery, Janice. It's sounds like it is very complicated and I am wishing you the best. You are doing your homework and getting the best of surgeons.
Update regarding Dr Beck in NOLA.

He revised a kp, valve and stoma in November in 2.5 hrs. Excellent surgeon, unfortunately complications post op lead to drain for old hematoma and abscess drain, longer than expected stay, on call weekend staff not part of Beck's team and did not meet any patient needs, dismissed the cries for help and overlooked the abscess which was not dealt with for 4 days post op and still recovering and on TPN. Indwelling catheter was in much longer due to the abscess and fistula.
Follow up next week with scope and CT scan to determine why abscess is still present and what will be done. Pain persists where abscess is and since incision closed and drain was pulled prematurely by local radiologist who did not know what he was looking at there is no place for any fluid to leave the body and there is no follow up care locally. A local General surgeon was seen who interned with Dr Beck and admitted right away this was beyond his scope, he never even ordered a PICC line or TPN. He learned. Dr Weiss at Cleveland Clinic in Weston had agreed to do follow up however he never saw the stricture when he did the first scope as he does not know K pouches either. The k pouch really does require a skilled surgeon.

Now, As for Dr Fazio, he is alive. He is not at Cleveland Clinic in any capacity.

Jan was correct, I only meant he was no longer there when I made the edits to the list.

NOLA is an awesome place, great food and sights to see and much better than Cleveland.

Oschner is a teaching hospital like CCF and lack of continuity of care is an issue there as it was in Ohio. I do believe every patient has a different experience.

Still unable to return to work with PICC line and a demanding job.

My kp is functioning good now, at 90% considering the abscess is there.

Diet is an issue as always and I am looking into a adding calories once I am off TPN. Benecalorie perhaps to maintain the weight gained.

Hope this helps someone in the future.
BTW the KP was done by Dr Fazio in 2006.
