Does anyone know of any GI, Colorectal Surgeons, etc that are familiar with K-Pouches? I was told by Dr. Dietz at Cleveland Clinic that there are only K-Pouch docs in the US. That can't be right. There MUST be at least one person living in Spain, Holland, or Italy that has a K-Pouch!

Please let us know if you know of anyone!

Thank you!

Sydney,
I have a k pouch and live in France but I did not have it done here...13yrs ago when I had some serious vavle problems I had to search out a doc who could fix it and found the only surgeon who claimed to know/do/fix them...turned out that he had done a couple 20+yrs previously but did not 'believe' in them and preferred to remove them from people who had them 'just in case'...he repaired mine with great disdain and incredible lack of interest and it was a disaster...The surgeon who replaced him 2yrs later was even worse...he believes that they are useless, should never be done and will all fail...
Which left me with a real problem...in the end I found a really kind, nice and gentlemanly general surgeon who has fixed my k pouch with the help of my Canadian surgeon...and then done some other fixes alone...If for any reason you cannot find help where you are and wish to come here then I can make some sort of arrangements for you...if not there is always England or Sweden.

Thanks Sharon!

I am just so nervous about traveling now. I feel like I'm "tied" to Cleveland Clinic and the US. I use to travel/visit friends in Europe prior to my surgeries. Now, It seems there is always something going wrong and I am worried that something will happen while I'm outside the States. How do you deal with it (living in an area that has no Kpouch specialist)?

Thanks so much for your help!
I have been fortunate to have met some excellent doctors and surgeon and have rarely had major difficulties while away (more likely at home)...if you are traveling and need a contact then please don't heistate to contact me while in Europe if a problem comes up...I usually check out the site daily...if not PM me and I will give you my email for emergencies.

I hope this puts you at ease. I know you are new at this and I am an oldie. I have traveled to Russia, Austria, Italy, London, Nova Scotia and leaving for Barcelona in 2 weeks.
I travel with extra supplies in different cases. I have never had an emergency.
Some people travel with an antibiotic,I never have. You still are getting comfortable with your pouch. You will enjoy what life has to offer outside the states.
