I just had my first surgery on the 10th of august. I was positive the whole time that I was making the desicion to have the surgery. My doctor wants me to have the S-pouch. I dont know what the term takedown means. Ive seen it alot but confused a little by the lingo on this site. I have been out of the hospital for 3 days now. I am being tapered of of prednisone. Im on 15 mg a day now and the last projected date i will be taking the last pill is 9-19. they said it will make me emotional but i underestimated it. Ive been getting anxiety feelings a couple times a day and just feeling a little overwhelmed.

My bowels have had some trouble waking up. The first night i came home i had a incident where i had a little stomach ache and went to go to the bathroom and went to sit to pee and my pee felt like it was FORCED out of my body and at the same time i got extremely naucous and vomited and my bag filled up very quickly with a bunch of fluid. I freaked out and called my E.r. doc that did the surgery and he said he wasnt alarmed and my bowels hadnt woken up fully yet. but now my incision site is leaking some fluids because the force when i vomited pushed fluids out. that experience was 3 days ago and im still leaking quite a bit of fluids. I have a home healthcare and the nurse said that its normal to leak. I also still have part of my rectum intact . the doc tied it off and im still experiencing leakage from there too. I called the surgical team and talked to a nurse and they said that its normal since my rectum is still infected with the disease.

I guess im just worried about my bowels taking forever to wake up so i can eat something other than mashed potatoes and cottage cheese, I try to drink as much as i can and eat when im hungry. I take 4 oxycodone every 4 hours for pain and i have to take them because if i try to take a smaller dose im in so much pain still. The doctors said my healing is going to take a while because im still on the steroids.

I guess im just a little down and i dont know if its because of the side effects of the prednisone or if its because im just getting discouraged about having to deal with this everyday and not really seeing faster improvement with pain control and anything.

My back is always so sore and i have been starting to have right side rib pain like something keeps getting stuck under it or something.

any advice would help me. They have my projected 2nd surgery date to construct the s-pouch for like november but its up to me to get my nutrition up and to get my strength up. Any advice on how to do that also. I have my first post op visit on tuesday august 21st.

I am wondering why an s pouch? They generally do not do them anymore because the j pouch is a much better design. Did your surgeon give you an explanation as to why he wants to give you an s pouch?

Takedown just means the final surgery when they reverse the ileostomy and hook up your new plumbing.

It sounds like everything you are experiencing is normal post op stuff. You should start feeling better with each passing day.
