Just a quick note about what is possible with a jpouch. Last weekend I helped coach a group of athletes participating in the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon as part of Team Challenge; the endurance event and fund raising arm of the CCFA. All together, 450+ participants raised over $1.6 Million for IBD research. Our DC-based team alone had 5 jpouchers; one coach (me), two mentors (prior participants who signed-up again), and two first-time participants. One of them (who is a member of this site), was one of the top fundraisers nationwide and ran a very respectable 2:06. I hope that some you will be inspired to sign-up for future Team Challenge events. You don't have to be a runner (we have many walkers & run/walkers) and you definitely won't regret it. Best wishes, Steve

Steve, this is very inspiring. I am an avid runner (with a j-pouch) and have completed 8 half and 1 full marathon. My favorite events are the Walt Disney World Marathon events (lots of restrooms along the route).
Are there any other CCFA runs scheduled soon? I am also in northern Virginia, are you aware of any local support groups?
Thanks - Edward
Edward, Team Challenge (the endurance events & fund raising arm of the CCFA) is currently recruiting participants (runners, walkers, run/walkers) for the Las Vegas Half Marathon to be held on December 2nd.

There is an information session about the program tomorrow (Monday) evening at 6:30 PM at Eastern Mountain Sports in Clarendon (2800 Clarendon Blvd).

The final information session will be on Thursday at 6:00 PM and K&L Gates, LLC (it's a law firm) in downtown DC at 1601 K St, NW.

You can always PM me for more information or go to the Team Challenge website (ccteamchallenge.org). It's a great program and you'll meet wonderful people. Several members in here have participated in the past.

Thanks for your interest and I hope to see you at one of the information sessions. Kind Regards, Steve
Subzeromambo, congrats on taking the first step and signing up. I know how you feel, the fundraising IS intimidating, but it certainly is doable (I've done it twice now) and it's well worth the effort (the race weekend is truly special). Some thoughts/ideas for you:

1. Don't procrastinate; getting the ball rolling early is key

2. Brainstorm everyone you can think of (relatives, family friends, high school friends, college friends, current friends, friends of friends, co-workers, etc) and develop a plan to get in touch with them (most you can do thru email; others might require a call and/or a letter)

3. Get creative. I've had business cards printed up with my fund raising website on them (go to vistaprint.com) and handed them out whenever I could. I did a little presentation at our church and got some donations there. A woman on our team last fall loved to bake and every weekend she would bake things to put in the 'break room' where she worked along with a donation jar. A young man on our team another season did a pogo jump fundraiser (e.g. solicited donations per jump). You get the picture....

4. Post your link in here. I did a couple of seasons ago and I've seen others in here since. I've made my share of anonymous donations over the years ;-)

5. Use social media. Post your link on Facebook, LinkedIn, etc

6. Talk to your Endurance Manager and teammates; they'll have even more ideas

I hope this helps. Keep at it; you'll be glad you did. Prayers & Best Wishes, Steve
