so I'm living with Metastatic cooon cancer. Had temporary ileostomy while undergoing chemo. Then had a successful reversal. Question for you pouchers.... can I start a baby aspirin once daily? I know when I was living with Ulcerative Colitis I wasn't allowed NSAD's or aspirin? Research shows that one aspirin prevents recurrence of CC.

Do any of you take aspirin or know this answer ... FOR SURE!  I don't want to risk the pouch!

Thanks!!!  Janie

Janie, I have FAP and was advised that aspirin has been shown to reduce the formation of polyps, but there is no consensus of the appropriate dose.  My current GI suggested a 325mg aspirin per day is appropriate, and I have had very few polyps develop.  I have been using that dosage for many years, first with a J pouch and now with a BCIR.  I have had no problems with that dosage, but this could be different for others.

Thank you very much Bill and I'm doing great with the colon cancer. I'm stable right now. I take one day at a time but METASTATIC COLON CANCER is different than other Metastatic cancers. I treat it as a condition ... not a life or deaths kind of thing. I'm grateful to be here and grateful to have adapted to my Jpouch. I'm finally eating salads and nuts again and with the addition of the baby aspirin I feel like I'm at least contributing to good health!

I watched an old episode of Oprah featuring Dr. Oz talking about baby vitamins! He recommended per day:  two baby aspirins; vitamin D3 at 1,000 mg; calcium WITH magnesium (without magnesium a calcium tablet causes constipation); omega 3 DHA; and a multi vitamin split in two, take half in morning, other half at night. He definitely said two baby aspirin, but I don't know if two would be too much for j pouchers.

Also, anyone making Dr. Oz's famous green drink every morning, you can buy a version of it at Costco, package of two 1 litre bottles for $9. It uses the same ingredients as his drink with one difference, kale instead of his spinach version. It is fresh and delicious and organic.
