please do not rush into removal of cuff without seeing someone at mayo and or cleveland clinic( for example at clinic you can confer with both dr. shen and surgeon same visit..

when i had my operation in 06 i had problems that never went away from day one...surgeon at time said i had some pouchitis(based only on symptoms by the way) and cuffitis he could see....he tried various things he knew over 2/3 years..i was miserable and sick..he finally said to me "i do not know what is wrong with you!"he did say maybe if i had the remaining cuff removed it might help....being pretty racked with pain in my butt for over three years..and an operation for jpouch i recall from hell..i asked about success and would it be as bad to remove remaining cuff as other operation..he said yes operation would be as tough and he could not guarantee that my problems would be resolved..needless to say..i was out of there finally and discovered this site..and started getting dr. shen my new dr. in cleveland now(i live in cal.) to let me rotate antibiotics as some did on site..it worked controlling the very worst of my issues and gave me a life again.he thought i had antibiotic dependent pouchitis at time..now he is persuing different cause..

i think this whole operation and those of us continuing to have problems is still a mystery(kind of like our colitus experience)anybody remember your dr. telling you you will be free of u.c with operation??i did..

drs like shen are constantly trying to figure out the complexities..he presently works with 1700 hundred patients at this time!..collecting data trying to figure us out.....please get more opinions..
