Hi: I am interested in speaking with CURRENT J-pouchers who have had their pouches for at least 10 years and are relatively healthy. Every few days, I wake up so nauseous. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. I have found that Doterra Ginger, which is an essential oil and can be taken internally to be helpful. I have also munched on a vareity ginger candies but don't find that as helpful unless I eat a lot of it. Ginger tea is good however, I am not always in a situation where I can make hot tea or have the time to drink it.

Has anyone else found they have this issue and figured out other ways to deal with it?

Also, sometimes, I just feel extremely famished. Sometimes it happens after a long session of emptying my pouch of gas and stool, sometimes it just happens. I feel like I have to eat something right away or I will either feel really sick or feel like I'm gonna faint.

Anyone else get this from time to time???

Thanks!!

Dancing Girl, have you had bloodwork done? Check your blood sugar levels to see why younfeelmfamished and fainty? It could be low blood sugar.

Ginger candies might have lots of sugar. Try buying a chunk of fresh ginger root from a grocery store. Break off a small 1inch piece and grate it carefully, or chop finely, steep this in boiled water. If you want to use Stevia to sweeten, or add a lemon slice and steep for five minutes. Pour into a big thermos and keep it with you during the day, sip all day, refreshing it with boiled water as needed.

You might have gastritis. I’d suggest discussing it with your doctor. If that’s what it is, a longish course of an acid blocker (e.g. Prilosec or Prevacid) would probably clear it up. It most likely has nothing to do with your pouch.

As far as feeling faint, is it possible that you’re getting dehydrated? Are you peeing light-colored urine at least a few times per day?

NOT going on prilosec or Prevacid. All those things have lots of worse side effects.

Doubt I am dehydrated.. I drink so much water.. and I"m always peeing...

I've had my pouch for nearly 13 years.  I don't really have the nausea issue, but I do get hungry/thirsty a lot, even after eating a meal.  Not sure if it's related to the pouch.  Because of this, it's really hard for me to maintain a decent weight and I am always dehydrated.  Definitely check with your doctor.

What did your doctor say about your situation? Honestly, I can't call my doctor for each and every thing. No time. No sick leave. The minute I call, he says COME IN. I can't. I have too many other health issues to deal with and am using lots of annual leave.  Just really curious to see what other J pouchers have to say. It could be the norm!!!

Getting nauseous or hungry hasn’t been my norm in 27 years with a J pouch. It’s not something connected to your J Pouch, IMHO. It’s likely something else.

Hi,

i was having the same issues with nausea for the longest time, I was on zofran for a while, but didn’t seem to work any longer. My pcp put me 40mg of Pepcid once a day. Took care of the nausea haven’t had it since.

I had nausea and dizziness every morning.  I had testing and found to have GERD which I take Prevacid for. No more nausea as long as I take it immediately when waking.

I get bouts of severe hunger. I always have a protein bar or something to eat in my purse. It's a horrible feeling,  but something I've learned to live with.

By the way, 34 year j poucher.🙂

Huh..#1. That's GREAT you have had a j pouch for 34 years!! I love that!!!

Did the Prevacid take away your dizziness? Just curious.

I am hesitant to put more over the counter and even prescriptions into my body.

I have Doterra (essential oils that are very pure) Ginger oils that I can take via mouth, Doterra ginger sucking candies and even ginger capsules from another company that seem to help with Dizziness.

I don't get nausea every day either so again, I am not really interested in buying more stuff over the counter.

The bouts of severe hunger.. do you think that associated with GERD? I find that after I have a large bowel movement, is when I feel that way and yeah, having various snacks around is a good thing.

At work, we have a full size fridge and I try and keep small yogurts, small applesauces, fruit etc in it and here at the desk, have a jar of almond butter and stonewheat crackers, sometimes other things like a can of sardines or oysters etc.

And if I travel, I always have a variety of snacks to eat in the car so I don't lose time stopping to get stuff or spend outrageous amounts of money at quick marts!

No, prevacid is just for the GERD.  I use cbd oil for dizziness and for stomach pain. Completely takes away the stomach pain I get. It's usually just once or twice a week and can't pinpoint it to any food specifically. But I'm really grateful I found it.

My hunger is mostly after I exercise.  I can't get the food in fast enough!😂😂

Would you mind telling us what brand of CBD oil helps with your stomach pain?

Thanks

Yes, I would be interested in the brand of CBD oil as well. Do you rub it into your stomach and temples in your forehead or are you taking it internally or smoking it? I have a medical marajuana liscense here in Maryland so would really love to know more about this! I am so glad you found something that has helped you!!

I haven't had trouble with nausea related to my pouch and I've had it about 20 years now. I agree with some of the other comments that it could be hunger. I had trouble with what you describe as a child and tween. I think it was low blood sugar and I grew out of it. I tend to eat a high protein high fat snack or dinner so I don't get hungry in the night OR have to go to the bathroom. Snacking before bed is tricky because of the pouch volume issue. Does the nausea go away anytime you eat something? Crackers might work better if thats the case because they will help with reflux better than candy.

Another thing could be having too full of a pouch. Is it related to anything you eat or how much gas you have? I can wake up feeling bad if I ignore my body and sleep instead of going to the bathroom when I should. I usually feel better almost immediately after going to the bathroom.
