Went to the ER four days ago because of an abscessed fistula. The ER doctor put me on 500 mg of both Cipro & Flagyl. The swelling in my lower labia where the fistula is located has gone down and is draining, but still very tender and sore. I started getting extremely nauseous yesterday and still am today. I threw up a few times as well. When stool

passes through my fistula or even gas it causes me extreme pain. Kind of a burning/stinging sensation. Anyway, I haven't taken either antibiotics since yesterday afternoon and I'm still feeling sick. Would it take several days for these meds to make me sick? I would think I would've felt this way from the first dose. I'm starting to think that I might need a seton drain for my fistula as well. Finally found a primary doctor, but I can't get in until September 27th! I need to get a referral for a colorectal doctor. They can't get me in any sooner either even though I explained my situation. It's so frustrating!!!

Flagyl is the most likely culprit for nausea. It is a common side effect. If it were me, I'd resume the Cipro without the Flagyl. It does sound like you need an antibiotic.

Side effects can indeed take a few days to evolve. It may have been dose related.

Even if you cannot get an earlier appointment with your primary MD, you should be able to get advice or an urgent care appointment from someone in the group.

Jan Dollar or anyone else that might know...  Does Flagyl work as well as Cipro? I ask because I stopped taking Flagyl because I thought it was making me nauseous, but when taking Cipro alone I discovered that that might be the culprit. I was wondering if I switched and stopped taking the Cipro and just took the Flagyl if it would work just as well. Anyone have any experience or info on this? If so, please let me know. Thank you!!!
