Hi Everyone,

I had my take down completed in 1984.

Two years ago it was discovered that my pouch is not in the physical shape it should be (it is big and over stretched).

Recently my back started hurting and the pain is quite high at times (level 10 pain). At rest it still hurts, but more like a 2 pain level. My back spasms quite often and this is where the intense pain comes from. The only relief is to lye down or sit.

I had an MRI done and it appears that I have a pinched nerve (L3-L4) in my back.

I am told that this problem has nothing to do with my inestines.

I believe that my back problems started with my pouch, as it feels like something in my pouch is pushing against something it shouldn't. I say this becuase having a bowel movement (or even passing air) relieves the pain.

Does anyone know if it is indeed possible that problems with my pouch have led to my current back woes?

Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Solomin

I can only speak for me. I have lower back pain and I think it is from all of my abdominal surgeries, I had a hysterectomy too. The internal organs were moved around for the surgeries so need to learn where to settle down.

There are also a zillion nerves around there too. The MRI was nice but I don't think it will show nerve problems.

I experience this also but more so with active pouchitis.
I have not had a pouchogram since prior to my takedown but due to the chronic pouchitis I may be having some test done soon. I wonder if my pouch is too large, but o not believe it to be the case as I can never make it through the night without at least 2-3 trips to the restroom.
