I have two children with Ulcerative Colitis. My oldest is 18 and had her colon removed when she was 7. My youngest (15)developed severe pancolitis in December and colon removed in February of this year. Take down was April 30th and he has had pouchitis twice.

My question is he is suffering from night incontinence and we are not sure how common this is and how long it lasts. He is autistic and takes medication to sleep so I am not sure if he is sleeping so heavy that he doesn't know this is happening or will this always happen. Our daughter will have accidents if she eats dairy late at night but this is every night. He sleeps with adult underwear but is really bringing him down. I should add he takes immodium 4x a day.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

I am over a year and a half past original surgery and most likely unusual so don't take it to heart.
I still have incontinence every night.  Nothing big just seems to  ooze out... Couldn't find a better word.  I also have it during the day but not to the extent I do at night most likely cause I am in a deep sleep when it happens.
I read here that most don't have this problem so it seems it may be something that will fix itself over time.
I would hope for you and them it does.  They are very young.
Has to be hard to have two young ones going through this.
I am an ol man.
Just my experience.

There have been a few threads about this over the years, so you might want to search the archives and read a bit more. I have been *very* hesitant to use a sleep aid, even on a red-eye flight, because of exactly this risk. Perhaps a reduced dose would strike a successful balance for him? I don't have nighttime accidents (and I sleep through most nights) unless I have untreated pouchitis, but when I was put to sleep for an upper GI scope I had a small mess.

Some of the things that have worked for people:

1) Taking Lomotil (or Imodium) just at bedtime. I take one Lomotil now, but in the past took two at bedtime. Lomotil works better for me than Imodium.

2) Soluble fiber (e.g. Metamucil) with dinner, to thicken things up.

3) No big, late dinners

4) A *small*, fatty "meal" at bedtime (e.g. a little peanut butter)

5) Emptying out patiently and completely at bedtime

Good luck!
