I had my j-pouch formed in November and so far it has been a good recovery. I have developed a small hernia however and other than being uncomfortable it is not bothering me too much.

…on to the ranting bit…

Yesterday (New Years Eve) I was very excited about adopting new kitties. I did not sleep well and could hardly wait to bring them home. When I get excited or anxious my bowel moves much more quickly than normal. That's OK because I was at home, on my own. Fast forward to the party I attended last night. I only ate bread and crackers but was in the bathroom every 45 minutes and sometimes I had to rush a little bit. I was continually checking to see if anyone else was using it and when I did go upstairs I had to take my purse with me as it contains my wipes and bum cream. All I could do was imagine what the other guests were thinking about me. Of course this was all negative…she is purging, she is doing drugs, she has the worlds smallest bladder, she is drinking in secret.

I know they probably were not paying attention that closely but in my mind they were counting and timing the number of trips that I made.

After a banana for breakfast my tummy has settled a little bit but is still more active than normal. You'll be glad to know that the kitties are starting to settle in too!

Thanks for listening.

Jaypea,
Congratulations on your brand new pouch and welcome to the club. You are right about both points...excess stress or excitement will stimulate anyone's bowels but ours especially...and no, most people are way too busy in their own minds to care about how often or how much time you spend in the loo...
I can remember going to a party just pre-pouch at 18. It was one of my last and the decisive one in my choice of going 'pouch'...my 2 best friends took me to someone's house for an evening, I was so excited to be going out...I made it up the front steps...and my bowels let go. Completely.
The host opened the front door, I screamed 'where's the bathroom????!' and ran. Didn't get out for an hour...Then my best friends (both guys) pick me and my soiled stuff up, dumped it all in a bag, and carried me right out the front door. (oupps...come to think of it, I never did give back the bath towel!)
Needless to say, I never went back there. Not even sure if the host noticed my mad dash and rapid departure...he was too busy with his guests.
My best friends? They never mentioned it again.

Jaypea.... You are still a newbie. I can only tell you that it DOES get better with time. But I agree that the "social" issues are the biggest hurdles for me to overcome. I am faced with having to go to work full time and I dread having to use those multi-stall bathrooms in the workplace and I jst don't know how I am going to deal with this issue (smell and noises) but I really don't have much choice.

If anybody has any tips or secrets.... please share.
Hip Hip Horay for you Jaypea! You went to the party which is more than I can say about me. I've turned into a hermit. I'm sure no one noticed and if they did who cares what they thought. They were probably busy having drinks and eating themselves and not watching you. If they were it was a boring party. Maybe next time you can put a little supply in the bathroom vanity at the beginning of the party so you won't have to carry your purse with you every time you go.
I too often vs ray away from large parties and all because of what you mentioned. If I do have to go i don't eat. Yesterday I attended a small gathering for the Super bowl and my fear came true. I don't know what happened but I was using the restroom almost every 30 minutes and having to stay in there at least 5-10 minutes each time. ..to make matters worse, the restroom door was right next to the TV! Most of the guests know my situation but that doesn't seem to ease the stress.
I bet nobody really even noticed you. We always think others notice us more than they really do.

And they key part here is KITTIES!!! I have two little cats (as in small sized) and they have been awesome throughout my illnesses. From cuddling to being guardcats. Granted, they were guarding against my mom who was taking care of me but still, I appreciate the thought, haha.
