My doctor who performed my surgery had told me to stay away from all vegetables and fruit. I only eat potatoes for a vegetable and after reading guidelines from all of you all seem to eat vegetables and fruit also  some eat salads, I have been so afraid to do this and just wonder if I should try vegetables and fruit without skin? I once ate sweet potatoes years ago and it blocked me up, had to go to the hospital. Have had reversals several times, once had a blood clot and had to revert to a bag for a year, and once the surgery was not my own surgeon but a doctor on call who I needed to be operated again that same week. I have gone through so much, lived on antibiotics for years, not been on antibiotics for over a month now on hyoscyamine that helps somewhat but still get lots of gas and frequent bowel movements. Have been through hell and back ever since having my surgery several years ago, never want bag back again, it was so hard for me to handle, get burning rectum and acid no matter what I eat. I am 71 years old. I think this group is so wonderful. every one seems to help each other. Thanks so much.

I might start out with vegetable juice...it is easy on the system, cannot block you up...

Pick maybe carrot & beet or celery...just try a tablespoon or 2 the first day and see how it comes through.

If you can borrow a juicer that would be great but if not you can buy all kinds of really good vegetable juices in whole foods stores or other similar places (there is a really good green fusion juice availible at walmart and other grocery stores, even costco)

It is all a question of moderation and trial & error.

If you can get a sample from the product testers in grocery stores it is even better...just gives you enough to see if you like the tast and then go back for more the next day to confirm how it effects your system before investing in a full bottle.

I do the same with fruit juices...I personally love pomagranite juice (comes with a cranberry mix too)...it is very astrigent and 'dries out' my gut so it is perfect for those days when I feel too runny (sort of like apple juice).

I love frozen berries too...I put them in a blender with ice and make a smoothie out of them but you can make a frozen sorbet (like a milkless icecream) by blending them without water or sugar.

Time to experiement and have fun, just remember to only test a small quantity at a time.
