So the sacro-ilitis, hip, knee etc pain was so bad that I was crying and vomitting, getting deeply depressed and losing hope.

The rhumy put me on 2grms of naproxen/day + tramadol as needed (I needed it) and lyrica 75gms/day...none of it was  helping...I had PT 2xs/Week but I was only getting worse.

I could no longer climb the stairs up to bed or go grocery shopping..I won't even mention getting to and from work. I love my job but I was starting to hate it...I just couldn't function any longer.

So I booked 10 days with hubby by the sea at a place with a reputed health facility...Rhumy suggested trying it.

I had 7, 1hr deep tissue massages (screamed, cried, turned blue and purple and thought that she was going to break skin and rip my muscles out), 2 lombard adjustments by an Ethiopath (a cross between a chiro and osteopath...slightly different technique but way more effective...It felt like he had re-adjusted my spine right down to the marrow!), 2hrs/day swimming, stretching, floating in heated sea water,  a bit of resistance training in the water and gentle walks.

The 2nd day they had to change my room because it was too far from the dining room and I couldn't climb the stairs to get there. 3rd night I was so desperate that I told hubby that I either healed or wasn't coming home with him. I cried all night.

My massage therapists were masochists. Hot olive oil and the pounding of my life. I swear that they had issues with me and my sciatic nerve.

The first improvement came when I met the Ethiopath (sp?) (he was a guest there and not staff)...he caugt me crawling onto a chair with an icepack on my knee and took pity.

The next day he adjusted me on the bed...He got the right sacroiliac back in (first time in 4 yrs that someone was able to do it) and a few cervicals. I no longer needed the ice packs on the knees...it was immediate. (realigning the hip did it)

2 days later he did the other side and got my hips even, the leg length almost even and most of my neck.

I finished the trip walking strait.

I can't say that I am healed...far from it. But...I can sit and stand without holding on, climb the stairs up to my room and even walk strait. Flew home today without my legs going numb.

I tapered off the lyrica and tramadol completely and only take 1 gm of naproxen/day.

I see the ethiopath in 2 weeks over here for a readjustment and control of my spine and am willing to sell the family jewels to pay him his fees! (don't know what he charges, he refused all payment while on vacation)...

Hubby is thrilled. Don't know if it will last but am doing my best for now to stay optimistic.

I am not that religious or superstitious but I could swear that he was sent by God or a miracle or my Karma...all I know is that I have hope again.

Sharon, your back!  I hope that in spite of your pain that you enjoyed your holiday!  I'm still in Florida, just got to Disney World yesterday.  Jeffrey looks wonderful!  He put on a few pounds the last few weeks so at least now he doesn't look like the poster child for starvation!

Delray has has been wonderful and relaxing.  It has been very rainy.  My friend was down for a week and it rained four out of seven days ;(. But we had a wonderful time.

Right now now my feet are killing me from walking around the Animal Kingdom for six hours today!  I put a pain patch on my back so at least that didn't bother me.  Bob and I went on this water ride this afternoon and got completely, down to the skin, soaking wet.  It was so much fun!  I haven't laughed so hard in a long time!

I sincerly hope you you feel better soon.  This is no way to live.  You are too young for all of this.  Is the Ethiopath in Paris?  Or can you find one in Paris?  I sure hope so.

Ok, my butt is killing me from sitting in this chair.  I think I'm going to bed!

dianne

It is a bit rough going today...I woke up stiff but that is normal for me after a long flight + airports & baggage (hubby can no longer carry them all either!)...but my matress is better than the one in the hotel so I am hoping to keep improving.

I hated being on the tramadol...my pouch was almost totally stopped...my turn-around digestion time is usually from 1 meal to the next...on tramadol it could take up to 3 days! (great if you have a j pouch that runs like water)...

I decided to try taking one of the appetite OTC meds that absorbs the fats in your food and fills you up....an all natural plant based capsule...I highly reccomend it for j pouchers who cannot get their pouch speed under control...between that and the tramadol nothing was moving at all. My usual sludge was nearly solid and impossible to live with...ended up stopping both within 3 days.

Yes Dianne, it was nearly miraculous...I could not even imagine doing what you are doing right now. I felt about 90 and in constant pain. The Etheopath (sp?) works in Paris 2 days a week so I will go to see him in 2 weeks...I need to keep up the good work but must find a pool to exercise in daily and go back to walking and stretching 1hr/day.

I put on a lot of weight (unacceptable!) due to the wonderful food there so need to lop that off too (it doesn't help the back)...I don't think that I will ever find a massage therapist like the ones I had there...need to be rich and pay them to fly here...not happening in this life!

Sound like you are having tons of fun...I am thrilled! How is Jeff doing? Is he feeling any better? How is his pain? How is he feeling?

Will get my house in order, start work again (correcting finals) and then go out and walk, walk, walk...

Please take good care of yourselves

Hugs to all

Sharon

Sounds like you were in excruciating pain   I'm glad you are doing better and that you will be able to continue with the doctor and other things you learned while there.  I was told I needed to wait 2 weeks to see if there were any results when I tried Lyrica.  After the 2 weeks it wasn't helping me either.  I know others that swear by it.  There's so much trial and error with medications and it sounds like you've got a non pharmaceutical regime to follow now.

My current chiropractor also dos ART, active release technique.  She was going to town on my adhesions - soft tissue manipulation,  before my j-pouch got worse.  I've told her when I get back to two Norco's a day I want to start that back up.  My PCP said my abdomen felt better and she thinks it's due to the ART.  I'm taking a long about way of saying that along with chiropractic adjustments she sometimes uses her other skills.  She does a bit of ART during her adjustments - like in my neck/shoulder area for example.  It sounds like maybe your new doctor might be like her.

Whatever he does it's working!!!

I hope you continue to improve!!!

Hi TE,

Well I tried it for 6 months figuring that I had to give it a reasonable chance to work but honestly now that I am off of it I see no difference other than my mood the first few days (no, I did not go cold turkey but tapered off slowly)...I was hoping for miracles but didn't get any (never really do but I remain an optimist!).

I am doing 1/2 - 1 hr on the pilates ball every morning trying to keep the abs and back in shape and walking 1/2 hr but I already feel the tightness coming back...Down to 450mg of Naproxen an no pain meds.

I was supposed to see the Ethiopath next week but I got 6 strait days of university 'jury' ( I sit on the jury of the university listening to the presentations of the future students and deciding if we accept them or not) work offered to me and I can't say no (that is why they offer me these crazy jobs...I never say no!)

So I will be sitting 8hrs/Day for 6 strait days...hoping that I don't block again. Maybe I can walk at lunchtime to ease it out.

I'll see the Ethiopath the following week.

I saw my PT twice this week. He massaged me and put the electrostimulation pads on it but it does not do anything close to what the deep tissue massages do.

Its like putting a bandage on a break...almost a waste of time but I will do the full 20 sessions.

I give myself the summer to get my health back....

The battle continues

Sharon
