I've had my pouch for almost 10 years now and I've always emptied 6 to 12 times a day. In mid July,I decided to reduce my Cipro, which I take for chronic pouchitis, to 250 mg a day because my pouch had been great for quite some time. All hell broke loose and I reluctantly went up to 500 mg twice a day. I kept that up for 3 weeks because the hell had been pretty bad and I wanted to be careful. Then I weaned myself back down to my usual maintenance dose of 500 mg.

Since then, my frequency has been an average of 3 times a day. It has been wonderful. I sleep thru the night, something I have never done. This has gone on since probably mid September. I figure it won't last, but sure am enjoying it while it's here.

Yeah! Yes, enjoy it while you can, and you never know - it might last.

Also, I have been promoting an "off-label" pouchitis treatment lately: Prilosec. There have been studies that reducing stomach acid does reduce the incidence of pouchitis in j-pouchers post-surgery. It has helped me immensely. Long-term use, you need to make sure your B-12 absorption isn't being affected, but otherwise I only see an upside to it.
That's a GERD medication and you should tell your doctor. I'm on a prescription one and you are right about the B-12 plus you need to pay attention to your magnesium levels. Magnesium makes you "go" more so that crosses out the benefit of taking the medication in the first place. I take the PPI (GERD medication) B12 & Magnesium along with my other medications and supplements.
