I had an annual consult with my GI, Dr Shen. He stated that he was not too happy that I just had an incisional hernia repair with mesh recently. He stated that he does not recommend IBD patients or jpouch patients have a foreign material(mesh) put into their bodies. Even though mine was an overlay repair which is over top the muscle so basically no contact with the intestine,. Oh Well, I have read multiple people here state they had hernia repair with mesh. Has anyone else heard about the concerns with IBD patients.?

But stated overall with what and how much I have been through, he said he is very happy with where I am right now.

I'm not sure if this is helpful because I don't even know the name of what I had done.  That said, I had a hernia repair, with mesh or some other substance,  in 2001.  It caused nothing but problems.  I had stabbing pain and within a year, started the plan to have it removed.  I really didn't want another surgery so I was dragging my feet.  Within a month or so before the surgery date, I ended up having a complete hysterectomy.  That surgeon removed the mesh.  He said it appeared to have somewhat melted and had sharp edges (which caused the stabbing pain I had experienced).

Recognising that was 15 years ago, I would be quite hopeful that things have greatly improved since then.
