If its not an emergency and not bothering you then its not a good idea to get operated. Trying using warm pads and lightly pressing it. My friend's had one since past 6 yrs due to heavy lifting still it has not come to an emergency. You know how much its bothering you and you'll have to decide but try these first maybe it'll retract back.

That’s a tough one. Is it tolerable and are u okay without surgery? That’s the question. Surgery can also cause more scaring and adhesions.

I just got diagnosed with a hernia too, but being pregnant they won’t do anything. They suggested I see a surgeon so I made the appt and then cancelled. I am hoping it goes away once the baby is born (only 5 more weeks!)! If not, I’ll have the stinking surgery. I figure it’s the easiest of all I’ve been through. And if it’s imoacting my quality of life, why not get it fixed.

From what I have read online (again, take it with a Grain of salt) it prob won’t go away on its own. Does the belt help? I have one but it feels like a corset, and with the baby belly, I can’t atand to wear it.

Anyhow, take it easy and let us know what your decide!

I hope for u it does go away.  For me I have had the hernia since 2014 and it's not going away; it's growing.  I know this surgery should be a piece of cake compared to the 3 part J pouch fiasco.  I believe everyone on this site who had these surgeries and more to survive and live the best we can has been thru hell and back.  Someday's it's hard to take because this disease and outcome is disgusting to me.

The dr's unless they had this surgery haven't or can't understand when we go there yr after yr and they finally say well just add some more cream or stop eating this or that or what about this pill or that.  I am done I believe.

I won't get the reversal and my GI dr don't advise it, so the Hernia I guess I will.  I don't want to wait for a emergency to happen.  My dr and hospital is 55 miles from me and I can't afford that.   I just wanted to know who had the hernia surgery.  I know nothing is guaranteed and appreciate all input.   My hope is a complete healing from the Lord and for all of us I pray.  Amen

Like someone else says on this site this too shall pass.  Thank you for listening.

just FYI... hernias do not just go away

You’re definitely not alone. My staples got infected and caused me to have a huge wound and eventually a huge hernia that I thought was normal until it became painful and grew. Used to joke and call it a “butt belly”.  Finally after it was huge and awful I had surgery. I was so anxious about it but the recovery was actually great. I was feeling good a week later having to force myself to take it easy.

FF a good 6 years or so later and I’ve had one again the last few months from heavy lifting  . I knew immediately. My surgeon didn’t use mesh so I always knew it was possible to get one again I just never thought so soon. I have a surgeon app scheduled in a few weeks for their opinion but I’m planning on having another surgery. My advice would be to make an appointment with a surgeon. In my experience unless you take it super easy the pain and size worsens. Surgery isn’t so bad and if you avoid heavy lifting long term after the chance of reoccurrence isn’t very high. Good luck! Keep us posted. Ugh healthcare is expensive.

I have a small hernia through my abdominal wall under the old scar, but luckily it's just a section of fat, not blood vessel or bowel. I'm reluctant to have a piece of mesh put in with all the problems people have been having with mesh implants, and it's not causing me much bother. Good luck with whatever you decide. There's always something else, isn't there, just when you think everything's okay!
