Hi, my oldest had 2 jpouch surgeries years ago (first one was done laproscopic surgery at a Children's hospital and she never healed right, second was done by Dr. Fazio at the Cleveland Clinic to fix the first one) . She has leakage from the surgeries and has found that Ilex is the only skin paste that helps her. She just found out that her Caresource insurance will no longer cover the cost of the Ilex. Any ideas of what she can do? She is afraid without it, her skin will break down and will cause her to have a ileostomy/colostomy again.

Thanks for the help!

Ilex is a good product but I also don’t think it costs that much and there are other skin barrier ointments that work well, for example has she tried calmoseptine?

Also, what is the cause of the leakage? Was her anal sphincter damaged? I was told that multiple surgeries can weaken the anal sphincter, however I was advised to do kegel exercises after my surgeries and my continence is (generally) pretty good. I do have very occasional leakage issues which are due to Pouchitis flares. I treat it and it stops.

Thanks for the replies.  The leakage is caused from the multiple surgeries she's had. She is unable to hold it in at times. She has tried multiple creams and nothing helps her like Ilex. She has applied for disability in the past and was denied. She has a very low income because she cannot work, therefore Ilex is expensive to her, it costs $20. for a small 8oz tube online and a large container of it I've seen is up to $75.00.

I also have leakage and ILex is only thing that helps. I just was told by Edgepark medical that its discontinued and they do not have it.. Its very expensive online like you have said.
