Hello All,
I don't know if this has anything to do with my j pouch, but it does with GI. So I have been dealing with heartburn for a while now. I always thought I would have this "because my digestive system hates me. I used to take prevacid prescriptions. I haven't taken them in a while. Anyways, my heartburn has been bothering me a lot lately. When I get it it is an intense, burning and acid like sensation. It hurts a lot. Sometimes I get it not just in my chest, but in my stomach/j pouch and whatever organs area. It feels like the acid is burning my insides. What is this called? And also, have any of you guys had severe heart burn? What did your GI doctor recommend? Thank you all

Some people have stated that burning can be related to bacterial overgrowth. There are diet changes to make, if that's the case. I'm sure someone who has it could chime in, I'm not affected by that. You avoid carbs and sugars on the diets they prescribe.

Could also be GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), which is more common. You'd take an H2 blocker or Proton Pump Inhibitor if this was deemed the issue. Like the person above, you'd go on Zantac or Pepcid, or Prevacid or Prilosec. You could also, like they said, try Pepto. Might help.

Probably best to see your doctor to determine the true cause.
