Hello everyone, I had a full removal of my large colon April 2007 followed by a full take down 14 weeks later. Throughout the past years its been turbulant to say the least...

Recently (last few months) I am going to the loo around 15/18 times a day and even more recently, possiboy more, with the added complication that I can in no way 'hold it' and have had many mishaps

Of course with this comes extreme fatigue, malaze, and depression is starting to kick in, for me by the way, going back to a Stoma is NOT going to happen...

Any suggestions or advice for me? Another challenge is I am currently living in Thailand, have no medical insurance and am not sure about the Doctors...

Mat, it really sounds like you need to see a GI. Get checked for pouchitis or even c diff. I know you said you don't have insurance, but neither of these conditions will go away without antibiotics. You could try all the bowel thickeners, bananas, apple sauce, etc . maybe a probiotic, but it really sounds as though you may have something a bit more serious going on. Good luck, I hope you can get a dx soon.

I think Aimee has it right, Mat. You most likely just have pouchitis. It’s only a big deal because it hasn’t been treated. In most cases 10-14 days of Cipro or Flagyl (both inexpensive) will clear it up, and things can improve very quickly once treatment starts. The hardest part might be successfully choosing a doctor that has heard of pouchitis. Are you in Bangkok or a less cosmopolitan location?

Good luck!

Hi Scott and Aimee,

Many thanks for getting back to me, really appreciated...Yes I am near Bangkok and I suppose its as you say, finding a Doctor who understands 'our' issues

I know I have to do something soon as its been far too ong now and its just not clearing up! For me, I often think I should never have had the surgury as I have always had issues one way or another, in fact, it runs my life quite often!

Anyway, I will try and get some Cipro or Flagyl ASP and see what happens...

Thanks again for responding,

Mat

Technically C diff *is* a type of pouchitis, though we usually talk about it separately. This could certainly be C diff, and it’s probably worth testing for, but that’s less likely than garden-variety pouchitis.

Lots of us have no trouble with fresh fruits and vegetables, though a dietary issue does need to be considered, too.
