I had small bowel obstruction 25 years after One stage Jpouch construction in 1991.

Up until that time Ihad been taking 2 immodium in the am and one at bedtime. I used meta mucil on a daily basis.  I think what happens is that as we age our digestive system slows down and we need to adjust medicines accordingly.  Now I only take immodium  and metamucil on as needed basis.  This is turning out to be meta mucil  and immodium every other day ( once per day)

I've had a k pouch for 35+yrs and never expereinced a bowel blockage, occlusion or ileus before 2007. I had had over 20 major abdominal surgeries in that time.

In 2007 I had my 1st ileus post-op (your intestine seems to not want to wake up and you can keep nothing down)...since then I have had numerous incidents with blocages and have even had surgery for it. (a loop of small bowel was imprisioned by adhesions)...

I think that our guts can slow down over the years, they can get filled with 'stuff' that kind of blocks up the guts with years of use (certain meds, foods supplements etc), we get adhesions that glue things up in there, gut twists and a whole slew of complications that we didn't know exisited.

Most times I just suppose that it is either adhesions taking hold of my guts or a bowel twist...and deal with it accordingly...a liquid diet, walk, walk, walk,...roll around on a huge pilates ball, bounce up & down on my toes, keep moving...and go to ER after 25 hrs if it does not resolve itself...I also avoid any foods that may contribute to further occlusions...very pasty or fiberous foods (I use a blender if I cannot live without them) and keep very physically active and drink lots of fluids...no miracles, just common sense.

Hope that it was your last one...they suck!
