I'm preparing myself mentally for J-pouch surgery, and it seems like the "Laparoscopic" method is the way to go.

The only thing i'm confused about is how common it is to have it done "totally" laparoscopically vs. HAND-ASSISTED (HALS). The surgeons in my area want to do it via HALS, but i'm thinking that would cancel out the benefit of doing it laparoscopically to begin with. Can anyone shed light on this?

P.S. I'm aware there is also a robotic-assisted method, but just interested in sorting out HALS vs. regular LS for now. Thank you!
