Hi everyone,

I've been living with my j-pouch since 1999 but I still haven't found a way to relieve or reduce the pain caused by gas, and how to fart without pooping myself..... Does anyone have any good suggestions?  I experimented with many different stretching motions (think Yoga positions), with the best results having me laying on my left side, with my right leg bent up towards my chest.

Cheers,

I can totally pass gas sitting or lying down. No errors. It is physically impossible for me to do so standing up. Just think there's an anatomically different angle post surgery that doesn't allow for it to slip out when standing.

I had my takedown May 1991, and it's always been this way.

I actually *want* some gas; it makes passing stool easier. One big blast, and I'm done.

Best way for us to fart.....hahaha....just said fart..... You guys did too!
Oh.... The child in us sometimes.
Bet way to do it... Mmmm.... On the toilet.
One mistake is one too many as we all know.
Of course there are times we think we can get away with one and we do.... It's wonderful... Sad but funny.  But then when you think you can.... That's when you say... Why... Did I do that?
Lol.
Richard.

im only two months post takedown. I have done the occasional fart when walking but generally the only time I fart is when im lying in bed. I find as the night goes on and maybe things get more solid in the pouch, I can pass gas quite easily, but I make sure I don't push. I kind of wait to get the sensation that gas has moved to the end of the pouch and then I lie on my right side, lift up my left leg slightly and it kind of just comes out with minimal effort, just a little bit at a time.

No farting off the toilet for this girl.  I would be in a huge mess.

as for positions, have you tried getting down on your hands and knees and then lowering your head until it rests on the ground?  the knee chest position.  Gas likes to travel up and with your bum higher than your gut you might convince the fart to travel up and out.

I find that the only way I can "safely" pass gas is to lay on my back with my knees drawn up to my chest. For whatever reason, this usually allows me to pass small amounts of gas without passing stool.  Obviously though, this is really only something I can attempt in the comfort and security of my own home. After 7 years with the pouch, I've long since resolved that it's just easier to find the nearest bathroom.
