Yes. Actually came home fastest this time. I spent 3 weeks in the hospital, but only one after surgery. My recovery, (knock on wood) has been pretty smooth. I plan on returning to work September 14th.

I wish you a surgery as good as mine Smiler

I'm not loving my ileostomy though. They assure me I will in a couple of months. I somehow doubt that!

Please let me know if there are any questions I may be able to help you with.
I am sorry for high jacking your post. I would love to ask u a few questions. How long after you woke up from surgery were u allowed to get out do bed? Drink fluids? Eat? Is there a lot of bleeding from the bottom? How long? Once you got home, what pain meds did u take? Those are just a few of about a hundred I could ask, but I don't want to be a pest. Thanks for taking the time and so glad it went well for you!
Please ask!! I feel the purpose of this site is to help others thru our own experiences.

1. My surgery took from 2 till 8 pm. The next morning my surgeon came in and told me to walk and chew gum. I looked at him like he was nuts, and didn't walk until the next day.

2. I was on a liquid diet for 2 days, then they went straight to solid, low residue.

3.The second morning, they took dressing off of bottom. I have never bled at all. The tricks I learned were to wear boxer shorts to get air there, and irrigate with water frequently (shower head, or bidet). Pat dry. Either walk, stand or lay down for the first 2 weeks. Sitting puts too much pressure on it. Sutures can open, and then you have to pack it. NO THANKS!!!

4. I rarely took pain meds at all. They made me want to vomit, so I chose not to. It was painful, but the thought of throwing up was worse than the pain. I came home with percocet, but developed a rash from it. They changed me to vicadin, and I only took it for 2 days.

I still feel pretty tired and weak, but I was pretty sick and malnurished prior to surgery. I plan to return to work Sept.14, 6 weeks after my surgery. I am eating well. Had bad reaction to first bag, but doing better with new one.

Please, please let me know if you want to know anything else.
