Hi guys.

I just had a scope a week ago which showed very mild inflammation, at the time my surgeon did not prescribe me any antibiotics as he thought everything looks fine.

But for the last week Ive had intense wind/flatuance, very uncomfortable and is causing urgency.

I called my specialist nurse who told me to see if things improve on its own, and if they don't I should have a course of antibiotic but she was not 100% sure how long and what strength to take.

I just wanted to know how long should I take it for 7, 10 or 14 days and in the UK they come in 400MG per tab, should I take it 2 or 3 times a day.

Would appreciate any advice...

Thanks

I have been prescribed Flagyl twice for pouchitis. The first time was 1 1/2 years after take down. 500mg 3x a day for 10 days. But second time I asked if he could give lesser dose. I have concerns about taking to many antibiotics. The last couple of days of taking the 500mg I had slight tingling sensation in my toes. That's one of the possible side effects they say to discontinue use if you experience it. He has given me 250mg 3 x a day for 10 days. I am currently on day 5 of this course of Flagyl. Hoping the 250mg is enough to completely knock it out. Can't believe how quickly it makes me feel better. While taking Flagyl I feel better than even most normal day I have without pouchitis.
Several times over the past few years with flagyl at 500mg for 7 days. The last few months trying to stay on top of possible chronic pouchitis and again flagyl at 500mg for 7 days then rotating to cipro for 7 days. Cipro no longer works and Doc has prescribed Flagyl again but now is 14 days at 250mg. I think sometimes they will try different dosages to try and find what works best.
