ok, first of all, I'm the mom!  My son had his take down surgery in SEPT.  Ever since, he has had nothing but sever pain.  we chalked it up to post surgical pain.  In dec. my son had a capsual study and MRI of his abdomen.  Christmas Eve, gastro called and told me to get him to hospital immediately. We went Friday!  Anyway they found a large abscess either in or on his pelvic bone but no fistulia.  The long of short of it is, they cultured the abscess and it was yeast not bacteria, which I understand is not common.  They put a drain into the abscess for obvious reasons.  The following week, we went for a contrast study and then found the fistula.  I'm not sure how large but it is connected to the J-pouch and the abscess. now he is put on TPN for the next 2 months.  There has been a lot of yucky stuff coming out of the drain including blood.  My question is, has anyone else had a yeast infection?  How long did the fistulia take to heal?  Obviously our goal is to save that pouch.  My surgeon is an experienced and capable surgeon, but this complication is a first for him, just my luck. Any suggestions/comments welcome. Oh, and Jeff has lost over 100 lbs through this whole ordeal.
