Hi all!

I had my Pouch removed after 12 years of function. The last two of those years were pretty bad due to pouchitis. Anyway, after the removal of the pouch in 2010 my surgeon came across a fistula that he couldn't repair. This fistula originates from the prostate and urine travels through a sewn up anus and out through my skin (yeah I know).

I've had catheters both through the penis and through the groin for more than 2 years now and I'm trying to figure out if this damn thing is gonna heal or not! Caths are so uncomfortable!

Anyone else out there had the same problem? I guess because I struggled with the pouch for so long my surrounding tissue has taken damage too? Do I still need more time?

After this much time, it does not seem like this fistula would heal on its own. Has there been any talk of surgical repair, or is there a fear that surgery would possibly make things worse? I know he couldn't repair it at the time, but maybe now it is different? Might be time for a second opinion.

You might get more response in the general forum.

Hi Jan,

Yeah sorry I didn't mention that I have had several attempts to close it. I'm under the care of a Urologist who has tried to "plug" it!

What it is is that the surrounding tissue is quite damaged and may take a long time to heal. Having said that the fistula output of pus and urine does look less than before so I guess this is a good sign?

I think I'm in for the long haul on this one!

Hiren.
