I decided to start taking fiber after reading one of the posts here. During the day I'm better than I ever have been, and that's without taking any lomotil. However, during the night I'm in and out of the bathroom all night with horrible gas and stomach pains. I must have gone at least 8 times if not more last night.  I'd hate to stop taking the fiber because I feel so good during the day. Any suggestions? Will my body eventually get used to the fiber?

Hi Scott, I'm taking the fiber before breakfast and I'm assuming that's why I've been feeling so good during the day. I already took one today, so I'll try taking it tomorrow night instead. I'm taking 625 mg. It says on the bottle that it's Calcium polycarbophil. I could never tolerate psyllium so I made sure when getting the tablets that it didn't contain it.

I'm curious, what does the fiber do for you? I've been taking the tablets and find that there's no difference in my output than before. I'd hate to resort to the Metamucil, but I'm willing to try the gummies.  Jan, do the gummies change anything for you? When is the best time to take them, or, do you take them the way that TE Marie suggested.

I tried eating the Metamucil wafers soon after my surgery and they gave me horrible gas. I stopped and never tried anything else. Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'm going to wait to see what happens with the pills. I took one this evening after dinner and washed it down with just a sip of water. Let's see what happens. Thanks again for everyone's advice.

I'm having more loose "events " than ever before in my 9 years of having a pouch. Have been taking Optifiber from Costco when convenient and Benefiber packets for travel.  I have some good days and times but others are miserable.  Will try the gummies but do you think Metamucil us better than the other powders? I'm so frustrated that I'm thinking about reversing to an ileostomy although I abhor the idea.  I will sincerely appreciate any and all advice.  Thank you.

I can't tolerate fiber supplements for the same reason and never found one that worked properly. Instead, I have three food sources that I use to get fiber and I usually have one mid-morning and one after dinner - nature valley cinnamon crisps (you can order a huge box online at Amazon), unsweetened applesauce, and bananas. If I disrupt my routine, I'm toast, but if I stick to it, it works great and sometimes I can actually make it through the night! Good luck!
