I had never heard of this until I saw it on a rerun of Gray's Anatomy. In that episode, the patient had to take the transplant orally. Since it's just the pouch affected and not a whole colon, can it just be inserted? Clearly, not familiar with this processes and who can trust what they see on tv?

AllyKat, Please let us know how this works for you. I mentioned this the same thing to my GI/Nutrionist, whom I just met for the first time last Thursday, but she wants to wait and see how I react to Probiotics first. Right now, since I have a J-Pouch, I cannot take Probiotics.

Tomorrow I have the appt with my GI and will discuss this with him.

I too am curious. So far all I know is it will be done like a pouch scope. I'm still up in the air how my donor will be able to time pooping lol or how I will be able to hold it in for a few hours after. Ps I take enough probiotics to kill a horse and still got c diff.

I am having it done at Cornel and I am hoping that it will help with my pouchitis although my-pouch is looking good and bloodwork is fantastic, sed rate at 22! No inflammation! How is your daughter doing? I'm a bit nervous about my son coming home on break until the is cleared up.

i had c diff a few times once with colitus and once two years ago with pouch..i was on vacation with my extended family at time including my little grand daughters and everyone else was fine.. my daughter in law called her daughters doctor to check and he said it was okay.. i would think your son will be okay too..

is this your first time with c-diff and do you have any idea why you got it this time?you haven`t been taking antibiotics i know..

I had fecal transplants for the treatment of c-diff (I think we might've talked about this in a previous thread). This procedure is everything it's cracked up to be. It successfully wiped out my c-diff, which wasn't responding to anything (including dificid). Unfortunately it didn't wipe out my pouchitis, and I had a bad flare in the days after because you have to abstain from ABs following the transplant. I started ABs about a week after the transplant to get the pouchitis under control. I was told to wait at least a month before taking any but the transplant still worked. It was done via scope and I was unconscious for the whole thing. Afterwards, I only held it for 60-90 minutes and I was given a shot of narcotics to slow things down and ease the discomfort of holding air in my pouch. My donor didn't time it perfectly (we were worried about that), but it obviously wasn't an issue.

All in all, it was a very simple procedure and it worked. The pouchitis did make it a little inconvenient though. I hope this works for you and look forward to hearing about your results.

I think I got it from taking care of me elderly father. He had loose stools while staying with me. Never in a million did I think about it being c diff. He refuses to get tested and I am not allowed near him till he does which is problem as he has cancer.

I am hopeful it will work as I am not taking antibiotics for pouchitis for the last 2 years. Did they give your donor a laxative or a enema? Thanks. Belive it or not, my GI is with a big teaching hospital in NY and they just started doing this.

They didn't give my donor a laxative or anything, he just slept in so his morning bm would be closer to my afternoon appt. It was a few hours outside of the time frame we were given but it didn't matter. Glad to hear your not on ABs, you won't have any of the drama I did. I hope you can find a donor soon and get this taken care of.
