Hello!
I've read some posts but thought I would do my own and see if I can get some new insight. For the past 4-6 months I've been extremely tired at night, when normally I go to bed at 11 I can barely make it to 9. Also I'm sure the irritable mood comes from the exhaustion but thought I would add itSmiler I have had canker sores in my mouth also for the past months (which I also had with my UC but they went away when I had my colon removed). My question is this: I am getting my blood tested tomorrow, is there any peticular test or anything I should have her look for? I am going to my general doc, not surgeon. I know the obvious like low iron and thyroid but is there anything else?
Thanks!!
P.s. About 3-4 months ago I went in for a "cyst" or so they say between my pouch and vagina that never wentawayay but nothing was ever confirmed what it was from either, don't know if they could be connected or not!?

I won't say depression. You might be going through the process of grieving. Also it takes the body time to adapt after being on different pain meds or meds for sleep to adapt. You could also be dehydrated. Check to make sure your fluid intake is okay. See if you can help other people who are struggling with similar issues. List the things you are grateful for daily.
I also get canker sores and migraines usually at the same time when my pouch decides to act up as well. My husband who is a dentist tells me it probably has to do with hormones and what my estrogen levels are doing. Perhaps you can ask about that? Otherwise I know they can be treated with steroid rinses. They can be so painful!I hope you get some answers!
B vitamins are implicated in depression and could be responsible for the mood swings too (although I honestly believe it is the exhaustion)...we have problems assimilating them so that might be worth checking out...low simmering infections can do it to you too...so have him do a wide screen and see what comes up...in the meantime...get to be as early as possilbe, keep your nutrition up and try some good quality suppliments (chewables or gummies are great).

If the sores are really bad, I recommend a "magic mouthwash" prescription - the combo I had for alpothous ulcers was lidocaine, maalox, and benedryl. I literally had 50 ulcers and that mouthwash made it so I could eat.

Magic mouthwash is kind of a generic for alot of potential mouthwashes ( as it has lots of potential ingredients for treating thrush, bacterial infections, etc.), but you are aiming for pain relief. The pain relief doesnt' last forever but it is sooo nice to have some time without your mouth on fire. You can wiki magic mouthwash as well.

Ulcers can appear in relation to IBD but they can also appear when you are fighting an illness. (Note, I'm not confusing cold sores and ulcers...it's just ulcers can appear as well).
When I ended up hospitalized because of UC, and then ultimately had my first surgery during that stay (month long), I developed countless canker sores. I can empathize with how horrible they are. It's unbelievable how many can develop all throughout the mouth and throat. I can't remember if the hospital gave it to me, or if my husband bought it, but I used a product called HurriCaine that really helped. It's 20% benzocaine oral anesthetic (topical which I applied with long q-tips). I remember using it more frequently than the directions tell you to, but I didn't care because of the relief it brought me. I hope the canker sores and other issues get resolved soon. My thoughts are with you.
I also had quite extensive alpothous ulcers and was prescribed a mouth rinse which consisted of benadryl, cortisone, an antifungal and an antibiotic. It was in some type of thick base, perhaps maalox as ActiveUC'er mentions. I had dealt with the painful ulcers for weeks and was very limited in what I could eat due to pain, but within a couple of days of using the rinse my mouth was almost entirely cleared up.
