Hi. I had my takedown 12/1/14. I have done a lot of reading on what to expect and here's what I gathered: excessive watery stools & butt burn. I don't recall coming across any warnings re what I am experiencing.

Right after the takedown (3 days in) I developed an ileus. After treating it with an NG tube my surgeon determined it must have resolved based on the fact I could now eat without vomiting, & I was passing stool. However, I was still distended and have terrible trapped gas. It feels like it's gurgling right under my chin & it causes extremely debilitating gas pains with every meal I eat. In addition, I sometimes still vomit- seems like I can tolerate food but only so much. My surgeon thought it's just my small intestine adjusting to it's new role but I don't see how this much trapped gas can be normal. Has anyone else dealt with this? It's torture.
They are doing another x ray today to see what's going on.

Also, gas rises. Assume "the position"! Get on all fours and put your butt in the air. Try lying on one side or the other. Or, lie on your back with your butt elevated on a pillow. In any of those positions, try coughing hard but be prepared by having something under you to receive a "wet one"! It takes trial and error. It does get better. Really!
