Hi All,

I need to do an enema for an upcoming defecogram but I haven’t tried one yet since my take down 2 months ago and wondering if it’s essential to thread the tip through the anastomosis. I have trouble locating the outlet with my finger so worried that I won’t be able to with an enema. Will simply getting it into my anal canal be sufficient? Can hardly wait to sh!t with an audience. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Sarah! Yes, just as Scott said. They administer contrast material both orally and rectally and take images of its passage passively as well as when actively defecating. They also measure anal tone through manometry. I was exaggerating my concern over the potential embarrassment of the test. Awkward yea, but it should provide some useful info and honestly I’ve lost all modesty (if I had much to begin with) over numerous hospitalizations and all the procedures. I can’t imagine how many have seen me inside and out and in various stages of compromise ;-). Hundreds.
