Hello, as I’ve gotten older (46) my periods have become inconsistent and very heavy thanks to peri-menopause.  I’ve decided to move forward with an endometrial ablation to hopefully remedy the issue.  Has anyone previously had one?  There is risk associated with it just like anything else but most concerned about possibly damaging my pouch.  Talked to gynecologist about that she didn’t seem to concerned about it.  My pouch is about 18 years old, never have had any problems knock on wood.

Hi @winnie! I underwent this procedure 12 years ago. At that time my pouch was also 18 years old like yours. The ablation was performed at a major hospital in Boston. The doctor performing the ablation was familiar with j-pouches, touched base with the surgeon who did my j-pouch surgery (out of an abundance of caution which made me feel better) and was reassuring that the ablation shouldn’t affect my pouch or its function. (You could certainly ask your gynecologist to touch base with whoever follows you for your gastroenterological stuff.) All went great, as I’m sure it will for you, affording me much relief. Wishing you all the best!
