Hope everyone is doing well.  I wanted to ask if anyone here has tried an elemental (pre-digested) liquid diet? Or anything similar to it.

This diet is intended to help you rest the bowel, eliminate any foods that trigger inflammation, and heal the underlying infection and inflammation in the digestive system.

There are shakes on the market, they require very little digestion and is absorbed quickly by the body, nourishing even those who have difficulty eating and/or digesting solid food.

I wanted to know your experiences with it,  whether good or bad.

I tried high caloric drinks as fluid nutrition several years ago. Either to replace solid food or as a supplement to gain weight. I wouldn't like to have them as only nutrition for more than a few days, although I'm ok with the taste.

As you said it can give your bowel a rest or keep up your energy levels in case of a partial obstruction or stricture. But for me it didn't help to gain weight. And it won't do anything about the root causes of a chronic inflammation, that's why I had such drinks only occasionally.

My number of BMs was almost the same as before, more watery stool of course. It was not a pre-digested protein drink I had but a high caloric drink (Fresubin energy drink was the name of the German product) with all nutrients for staying on a fluid diet. I remember that I had a specific high protein version once that was not the right thing for me, but you'll need to try what suits you best.

@Jfill21 I just ordered Absorb plus powder to try it out.  Can you tell me your experience with it.  Such as, did it give you the bowel rest you were expecting? Did your bms stop or were they watery?  Does it give you energy? Do you feel hungry or nauseous after drinking the shake? What I'm mainly looking for is bowel rest and energy. I have too much inflammation and nothing seems to be working on me.

I’ve only had positive experience with the shakes. I actually feel energized after drinking, and feel full. Mixing with the oil is a must for me since I use water to keep the shake pre-digested. It’s comforting to know I’m still getting nutrients, protein and calories if I need to rest the pouch by skipping some meals. BMs are more watery of course but easier to pass when you’ve got inflammation from pouchitis.
