Hi I've seen Dr Shen twice in the last couple of months. He specializes in endoscopic pouch procedures so yes he scopes pouches- he does it A LOT. As far as I can tell, he basically scopes pouches all day on Tuesday and Wednesdays! He isn't a surgeon so he doesn't do any revisions as far as I know but he does needle-knife for strictures and a banding procedure for prolapses so he does treat structural issues. He is a great person to get an appointment with if you have any pouch issues. He knows so much more about pouches than typical GI or IBD doctors and is much more holistic than the surgeons I've had. As far as I can tell, he is pretty easy to schedule with right now.

I am another fan of Dr Shen. He found a “stone” in my k-pouch 10 yrs ago that 2 other doctors did not find.  I had it removed by a urologist (just like crushing a kidney stone) and colorectal surgeon at Cleveland Clinic in Florida. The entire  procedure was arranged by Dr. Shen with the other. 2 doctors. I now go for a scope every year and Dr. Shen looks for possible recurring issues.  I have had video visits ( days after scope) since Covid and I think he spends more time explaining things in the video visits, than when I saw him in person. He does scopes at Columbia, but one day a month he does them at the surgery center near Rockefeller center.

I highly recommend him.

I think he would do video visits anywhere, if you paid. his nurse is also excellent.

Hello marz

Thank you for sharing your experience. I ve been told from another forum I asked, that Dr Shen doesn't have a license for outside the US, and that is the case with other US doctors , so he wouldn't be able to offer a video consultation to a patient in the EU. Though he did during the pandemic because of the circumstances.

I wouldnt be able to travel to the US due to my physical condition. So ...

Sorry to hear you can’t travel. Possibly dr Shen can recommend someone in Europe that you can see. last Fall he did a 2 day conference/seminar with doctors from all over the world—all about pouches. It was available on video and I watched it. I will try to find a link.  I remember there were doctors from many places. Maybe someone knows the link.

I also thought about this! I d be interested to someone that shares the same treatment knowledge as him...if there is anyone that does. Do you know how I could contact Dr Shen about this?

I am also wondering if he did have consultation with overseas patients during the pandemic as the patients couldnt travel due to restrictions, if that would also be possible if someone cannot travel due to his physical condition(?)
