18 months post take down I am trying raw veggies, corn and popcorn. I couldn't eat the corn and popcorn with UC.

I'd say you won't know until it happens. My hole way of eating has changed to facilitate the use of my j-pouch 18 months ago. My diet is better than before. Some foods that I use to like don't sound good to me at all.

Some people can eat anything and everything. Some have food allergies. I don't know much about them but would not count on anything.

If you are considering if you should have the surgery or not I'd like to add my 2 cents. Make sure you are ready, it is good to ask these questions. If it is inevitable that you are going to have the surgery I think sooner is better than later. I wish I'd had it sooner. That's because I suffered too long before having it It might get so bad that you need to have the surgery done in an emergency situation as well, it would be better to have it when your colon has not gotten to that point as well.

It's major surgery and some people bounce back quicker than others. So make sure you are good and ready. Hopefully someone with your current food gluten and/or dairy intolerance before or after surgery will post.

You might also want to do a search in past topics for "gluten" etc. to read past postings on the subject. You do a "find" where the magnifying glass is on the left hand side of the tool bar.

Good Luck
When I had UC I litterally couldn't eat anything. I lived on scrambled eggs and grilled chicken. I had to give up coffee with UC too. Now with my j pouch I can eat all my favorite foods again and enjoy my coffee. Certain things do bother me (more trips to the loo) but I don't let that stop me from eating them. Its not like when I had UC where I would eat something and immediately it caused me pain and urgency. The extra 10 pounds I have gained in the past year is proof of me being able to eat again! I'm dieting right now. Razzer
I was sensitive to dairy goods before I had a pouch. While after I received the pouch not much has changed in that department. While just about all foods I eat now disappoint me. The best I can say is some work a little bit better than others. Now I understand why our colons were made so big to begin with. Somebody obviously understood there's no defeating the laws of gravity.

With UC I was lactose intolerant. On my bad days even water would bother me. Now after surgery, I'm both lactose & gluten intolerant. But the fact that I can eat most foods without a problem is a joy to me. I would say if this is what is keeping you away from a j-pouch, you really have nothing to lose since you are already intolerant to them.
